2024 has been a landmark year for Football Queensland’s digital broadcasting platform, FQTV, which has experienced a significant 23% increase in viewership across all competitions.
This growth not only highlights the rising popularity of football broadcast content in Queensland but also presents exciting new opportunities for Football Queensland clubs to connect with a wider audience and increase fan engagement to drive greater attendance at their local grounds.
“This year’s viewership surge is a testament to the growing demand for local football content as FQ recorded an additional 315,000 viewers tuning in to watch Queensland’s football action on FQTV, demonstrating the expanding reach and increasing interest in high-quality, community-driven football,” Football Queensland CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“Through the streaming of matches on FQTV’s Match Centre, clubs gain exposure to a much larger audience, which is key to strengthening community and commercial ties and is an invaluable tool for clubs to showcase their on-field talent, captivate new supporters to boost matchday attendances, and increase sponsorship value and opportunity.
“The 2024 surge in viewership goes beyond digital engagement as it represents a valuable avenue for clubs to benefit from greater value partnerships, offering increased visibility for matchday sponsors and contributing to the financial sustainability of Queensland football whilst offering a powerful tool to drive the advancement of the game at every level.”
Women’s football, in particular, has experienced a standout surge in viewership, with a 113% increase—adding 118,000 new viewers to the platform. This is reflective of the broader rise in the recognition and popularity of women’s football in Queensland, a trend mirrored by the historic 44% growth in female participation recorded in 2024.
“With the excitement following the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ and upcoming events such as the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, local clubs now have an unprecedented opportunity to capitalise on this momentum by offering fans top-tier matchday experiences, converting this excitement into higher attendance and stronger fanbases across all regions,” Cavallucci said.
“The surge in women’s football is part of a wider growth in football across Queensland, with regional football viewership also booming in 2024 as FQTV expands its coverage, streaming more matches from the Kappa Pro Series and statewide Kappa Queensland Cup, providing regional clubs with new opportunities to engage more fans and build stronger community and commercial partnerships.
“This year has been a turning point for Queensland football, and we are excited about the possibilities ahead. With growing interest in football, clubs have the chance to turn that attention into long-term growth and FQTV is here to help them unlock those opportunities and take their club’s success to the next level.”
The FQTV Match Centre continues to serve as the central hub for all Football Queensland streamed matches, covering all major Queensland football leagues including the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland, the Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL), and exciting initiatives such as the statewide Kappa Queensland Cup and the Kappa Pro Series for men and women.
