Football Queensland has today confirmed the further suspension of all football activity in the Darling Downs region until this Wednesday, 12 March due to the ongoing impacts of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred including flooding and damage to some clubs.
The decision to extend the suspension of all Darling Downs football activity has been made to prioritise the ongoing safety of all members of the football community and to support impacted clubs in their recovery efforts, with another update to be issued this Wednesday, 12 March.
In some cases, local councils may not permit access to grounds and will keep grounds closed. Clubs are reminded of the requirement to follow advice from local councils regarding access to council grounds.
To assist Football Queensland in determining a suitable plan for the resumption of competitions and fixtures, all clubs are asked to complete the club damage report form on FQ’s Disaster Recovery Hub as soon as it is possible and safe to do so. This will be crucial in determining each club’s readiness to recommence and host fixtures and other forms of activity including training.
Clubs are encouraged to visit the Disaster Recovery Hub on the FQ website to view important updates on grants and funding support as they become available and to connect with volunteers who are ready to offer assistance.
Members of the football community can also visit the Disaster Recovery Hub to view a list of clubs requiring volunteer support for clean-up and recovery efforts.
Football Queensland will continue to work closely with Darling Downs clubs regarding the resumption of football activity and the rescheduling of impacted fixtures as appropriate and wishes all impacted clubs the best as they commence recovery efforts in the coming days.
