Expressions of interest are now open for junior regional futsal players to trial for the FQ Emerging state futsal representative teams, set to compete at the National Futsal Championships on the Gold Coast from 13–17 January 2026.
Boys and girls from our Youth (born 2006–2007) to Under 12s (born 2014) age groups across regions in the Central Coast and Northern conferences including Townsville, as well as those in the Darling Downs, are encouraged to complete the EOI for the opportunity to represent Queensland and showcase their talent on the national stage.
FQ Senior Manager – Corporate Services (Futsal) Vince Sciacca said the FQ Emerging teams and corresponding statewide futsal pathways are central to FQ’s ongoing investment in young player development and opportunities across the state.
“Queensland’s regional futsal landscape has come a long way in recent years, with talented players emerging from every corner of our state,” Sciacca said.
“Through our FQ Futsal pathway, young players now have clear opportunities to develop their skills, compete at higher levels, and progress to represent Queensland on the national stage, no matter where they are located, and our FQ emerging state teams are one of the top opportunities for regional players to achieve this.
“With the National Futsal Championships proudly being hosted on the Gold Coast for the next three years, there has never been a better time to play futsal in Queensland. It’s a fantastic opportunity for players from across the state to showcase their talent on the biggest stage on home soil.”
The representative squads will be selected from the growing network of regional futsal competitions across the state, with new leagues recently launched in Mackay and Hervey Bay joining established and affiliated competitions in Bundaberg, Cairns, Chinchilla, Rockhampton, Biloela, Mount Isa, Townsville, the Torres Strait and Cape York, and the Darling Downs.
The expansion of regional futsal competitions is creating a stronger and deeper talent pool across Queensland, providing a clear pathway from local clubs to state representation and, ultimately, national honours. Queensland has a proud history of players reaching the highest level, including two players who recently represented Australia at the 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup™ in May.
“Our focus at FQ has been on the strategic investment in the growth and development of futsal right across the state, ensuring that all our young developing players across every region have access to quality competitions and clear pathways,” Sciacca said.
“We’re already seeing the benefits of this investment, with talented players emerging from regional competitions and progressing to represent Queensland at the national level. The pride these players bring to their communities is something really special.”
Further details of the upcoming trials will be announced soon, with Football Queensland encouraging players to get involved in their local affiliated futsal programs to take advantage of the opportunities available through the FQ Futsal pathway.
