Following the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Friday 22 May, Football Queensland welcomes Nick Malham and Andrew Hoyling to the FQ Board of Directors and confirms the re-election of Paula Robinson, while acknowledging the contributions of outgoing Board Directors Ross Thompson and Matt McKay.
A State Council meeting of the FQ Congress was also held today ahead of the AGM as the FQ Board and FQ Members met for an extensive planning and strategy session.
“On behalf of the Football Queensland Board and Members, I’m pleased to welcome incoming Board Directors Nick Malham and Andrew Hoyling, who I’m confident will bring valuable and fresh insights to help drive the game forward in an exciting time for football in Queensland,” FQ President Paula Robinson said.
“I also look forward to continuing to serve the Queensland football community as President of the Board as our organisation embarks on its next strategic planning cycle to shape the future of the game.
“Finally, I wish to thank outgoing Board Directors Ross Thompson and Matt McKay for their significant contributions to football in Queensland throughout their tenure.
“It has been a pleasure to work alongside such dedicated and passionate members of our game, and I can wholeheartedly say that their service will continue to deliver positive outcomes for the football community.”
State Council Meeting
The meeting of FQ Congress today, Friday 22 May, provided a valuable opportunity to bring together the Football Queensland Board and Members from each region for one of two statewide strategy sessions.
The workshop sessions facilitated productive discussions on topics including the development of the next FQ Strategic Plan, the exploration of new revenue systems as part of a finance-focused session, and the FQ operating algorithm, key touchstones and corporate milestones.
Election of Nick Malham
Football Queensland has confirmed the election of Nick Malham to the FQ Board of Directors following the 2025 Annual General Meeting.
A digital technology and innovation leader with over 15 years of experience building and scaling new ventures and AI-powered products within Australia’s most trusted organisations, including Medibank, Optus, CommBank, and the Sydney Opera House, Malham has a proven track record of using technology to drive commercial outcomes, grow community reach, and deliver purpose-driven impact.
Malham also brings valuable insight into the grassroots game in Queensland as a passionate member of the football community, and will draw on his direct experience across the Information and Digital Technology, Strategy, Customer Centricity, and Strategic Stakeholder Engagement competencies identified in FQ’s Board Skills Matrix to help grow participation, enhance the fan and club experience, and build long-term commercial sustainability across the sport.
Appointment of Andrew Hoyling
Football Queensland can confirm the appointment of Andrew Hoyling to the FQ Board of Directors following the 2025 Annual General Meeting held on Friday 22 May.
Hoyling is an infrastructure specialist with over 20 years of commercial advisory and investment experience in the procurement and delivery of infrastructure projects and the acquisition of infrastructure assets, including with KPMG and QIC.
Having helped deliver some of the most significant and complex infrastructure projects in Australia, Hoyling will bring valuable insights at a crucial time for football as Queensland prepares to host the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, drawing on his recent work for The Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) and on Brisbane 2032 projects including Brisbane Arena and Sunshine Coast Rail.
Departure of Ross Thompson and Matt McKay
Football Queensland also wishes to thank outgoing Board Directors Ross Thompson and Matt McKay who have stepped down from the FQ Board.
During their tenure, Football Queensland recorded significant growth in participation, particularly in women and girls, and strengthened relationships with every level of government to deliver record funding for clubs and venues across the state.
As FQ Board Directors, Thompson and McKay also oversaw the implementation of the generational Future of Football+ reforms, which lowered the cost of football for every Queenslander by delivering best practice governance and administration of the game and saw the introduction of the statewide connected football pyramid which created stronger pathways for players and clubs in every region.
Football Queensland thanks Ross and Matt for their service to football in Queensland.
