Football Queensland is proud to announce that Townsville club, Saints Eagles Souths FC, has been named as August’s Club Changer Club of the Month in recognition for their outstanding commitment to inclusion and community impact.
Formed through the merging of St Joseph’s juniors and two senior clubs, Saints Eagles Souths FC carry a proud history rooted in Polish heritage, community spirit, and passion for football. Known for their fierce competition and their loyal supporters, Saints are a club that honours their past while building for the future.
Over the past 12 months, Saints have worked tirelessly to create a club where every player feels included and valued. With members from more than thirty nationalities, including many who joined within weeks of arriving in Australia, the club has become a true reflection of its community.
At the heart of this success is the club’s Eagles of Excellence program, designed for youth players aged 10-15. The program has welcomed refugee children, reignited the passion of experienced coaches, and focused on developing both football skills and life skills. Saints also prioritise opportunities for girls, ensuring they have dedicated teams, while also supporting those who choose to play in mixed squads or train alongside boys to further their development.
In just two years, Saints have expanded from a single girls’ team to now fielding multiple teams across every age group up to under-13’s. To keep up with this momentum, the club will soon launch a five-week girls’ competition and host end-of-season come and try sessions to encourage even more young players to get involved.
Saints also proudly support families facing financial challenges, sponsoring players each season to ensure no child misses out on the chance to play. This year alone, ten young players have been able to take the field thanks to the club’s financial support.
Being part of Football Queensland’s Club Changer program has given Saints new tools to grow sustainably whilst opening its doors to everyone from its local community. The program has helped spread responsibilities across more volunteers, reduced burnout, and strengthened their long-term focus on inclusivity and diversity. For Saints, being a modern club means building a sustainable, family-focused environment where players, parents, and volunteers all feel equally valued and supported.
Heading into the new season, Saints are focused on developing their youth, building a clear pathway into senior football, and embedding the “Saints Way”, a culture of hard work, respect, and team spirit, into their players. Off the field, the club is investing in coach development, mentoring, and long-term planning to ensure Saints remains competitive for many generations to come.
Football Queensland congratulates Saints Eagles Souths FC on being named Club Changer Club of the Month for August 2025 and celebrates their ongoing dedication and leadership to truly making football a game for all, for life.
