Football Queensland is excited to stage a first-of-its-kind Australia Day FIFA Tournament on Wednesday, 26 January 2022. The one-day knockout tournament will take place online on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms for participants of all ages. Australia Day is a time to reflect on our ancient Country and celebrate the waves of migration that have helped forge Australia’s identity and place in the world. Football has played an integral role in Australia’s multicultural success story, with generations of migrants using the game as a way of integrating into Australian society. Football continues to bring together Queenslanders of all backgrounds, from First Nations communities to new migrant groups that now call Australia home. We are one football family, and we’re all part of the story. FQ invites Queenslanders to sign up now for the very first Australia Day FIFA Tournament. Registrations close on Sunday, 23 January at 11:59pm. This event is proudly supported by the National Australia Day Council (NADC).
About The Tournament
The FQ Australia Day FIFA Tournament will run for one day in a knockout style format, kicking off at 10am on Wednesday, 26 January 2022. Each round is to consist of one leg only, with the winner progressing to the next round. If scores are level at full time, players will be allowed to have a tie breaker round to decide a winner. If scores are still level after the tie breaker, a coin toss feature will be used in Battlefy to decide a winner.
Players must contact their opponents via the tournament Battlefy platform chat feature and/or gaming console to set up their opening match time between 10am and 12pm on the event day. Players must play their first match between this timeframe in order to progress to the next round.
Players are to add their respective Xbox Gamertags or PSN to set up the game, as listed on Battlefy. The two players must then communicate to arrange an exact match time and have a maximum check-in period of 30 minutes to make contact with their opponent. If a player refuses to check in before the 30 minute timer, they will be removed from the competition. Players must ensure their console privacy settings are set to public, so their opponent is able to find them when searching for their Gamertag/PSN ID.
The player listed as the ‘home’ team on Battlefy is responsible for setting up the match on FIFA 22. At the conclusion of every game, winning competitors are required to submit their scores in the Battlefy web-app in the scores submission section, with accompanying photographic evidence of the result.
