The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ is here and we’re excited to announce how you and your club can get involved in the biggest global women’s sporting event.

With ten Queenslanders named on the CommBank Matildas’ 23-player squad, the largest contingent from all Member Federations, the Queensland football community is encouraged to get behind the team as they strive for gold whilst taking advantage of the many ways to get involved in the tournament.

From hosting a MiniRoos Kick-Off program to running ‘Green and Gold’ training sessions or Female Football Festivities at your club, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the entire football community to get involved in the thrill of a FIFA Women’s World Cup™.

Get ready to experience the FIFA Fan Festival at Southbank Parkland, Brisbane (Meaanjin), a vibrant destination for football enthusiasts of all ages! From July 20th to August 20th, immerse yourself in the excitement of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™.

The festival is free to attend and offers a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the game. Catch all the thrilling matches of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ live on the big screen in a buzzing atmosphere. But the excitement doesn’t stop there! Enjoy a weekly headline performance featuring the best homegrown music talents, adding to the festive spirit.

Come & Play For Kids - Southside Eagles FC

Date: Every Friday afternoon in August & September
Time: 4:30pm – 5:30pm
Venue: Bulimba Memorial Park
About: Come down to Bulimba Memorial Park every Friday afternoon for a social football session for ages 5-12. Sessions are low pressure and fun-based gameplay. Designed for players new or returning to football that are not already part of a club team.

Try Football Future Matildas - Taringa Rovers FC

Date: Mondays, 21 August – 4 September
Time: 6pm – 7pm
Venue: Park 3, Jack Speare Park
About: This is to capture younger players aged 6-12, who have gained extra or new interest due to FWWC.

Female Football Festival - Highfields FC

Date: 9 – 10 September
Time: From 9am
Venue: Highfields Sports Park

Social Promotion

Throughout FIFA Women’s World Cup there are a range of social media promotions run by Football Queensland. The most notable #YehTheGirls #TilitsDone & #BeyondGreatness any image and video tagged with these hashtags will be used and shared by Football Queensland to celebrate the Women’s World cup and female community.

Good Luck Messages

Football Queensland will be constructing a good luck video to showcase the Queensland’s support. Phrases include Good Luck Matilda, Go the Matildas, Let’s go Matildas.

Host a Green and Gold training sessions

Host training sessions for your teams where participants wear their Matildas jersey, Australian jersey, or green and gold colours.

MiniRoos Kick-Off Progam/Come and Try day

Bring your daughter or friend down to your local football club to take part in MiniRoos games and skills sessions aimed at building fun and friendship. MiniRoos only

Kick-On for Women Program/Come and Try Sessions

To encourage more women and girls to become involved in football (soccer) that weren’t already playing or wanted it to fit into their busy lives, we developed a low-impact social and accessible version of the game to get them started. 

Buddy/mentor program

Your football club is a family. Match a senior player with a junior for a season-long buddy program, which may involve anything from 15-30 minute sessions during a designated training day each week, a combined stretching/warm up session, or visiting and cheering each-others teams throughout the season. Strong sense of community means a strong club, and players who remain loyal to their club.

Club BBQ/Lunch/Dinner

A simple and effective way to build community is with a gathering of players. A barbecue or food focused event is simple, and when coupled with a drawcard, such as social football and games, creates a fun and friendly atmosphere.

4-week pop up small-sided program

Host a short form small-sided competition for teams in different age groups. An exciting way to engage school students in a modified format of small-sided games. The objective is to celebrate diversity, apply basic skills in a supportive team environment, and to further enthuse children/teens to be life-long supporters of the world game.

Female Football Festival

An expansion on the barbecue social event, a festival or gala day which is designated to celebrate female football is a great way to create awareness for the initiative and the women and girls who play the game.

A combination of any of the previously mentioned activities could all be implemented into one, family-friendly day. The added bonus of being a specific day, promoted club wide, is a good opportunity for any fund-raising initiatives for your club.

Skills Challenge

Host a skill challenge, where footballers have an opportunity to showcase their skills. Post the winners on social media using the World Cup hashtags.

Bring the football community together and celebrate wearing their favourite football player’s jersey.

Train like a Matilda session

A coaching session inviting female participants to undertake specific specialty skills outside and in addition to regular training sessions is an effective way to build skills and network.
