South Brisbane and Galaxy FC shared the spoils in a dramatic Queensland derby double-header at a packed Eagles Sports Complex on Sunday.
In front of one of the state’s largest ever Puma F-League crowds, South Brisbane claimed early bragging rights with a 7-2 win in the Women’s match before Galaxy’s Men squared the ledger in a 6-3 victory.
Both Women’s teams entered the derby in top form after posting comfortable wins over East Coast Heat the previous day.
With first place up for grabs, it was South Brisbane who kicked three points clear at the top as Sofie Persson’s hattrick did the bulk of the damage.
Despite the defeat, Galaxy remain second in the Women’s competition to round out an all-Queensland top two.
The Gold Coast club bounced back in the Men’s derby by notching four goals to one in the second-half after an even opening period ended 2-2.
That win, as well as Saturday’s 4-4 draw against East Coast Heat, moves Galaxy into fourth and in position for a Finals appearance.
Following this weekend’s bye, all four teams regroup for another derby double-header next round alongside a visit from traditional powerhouse Dural Warriors.
South Brisbane, meanwhile, remain sixth after their 5-7 loss to Sydney-based Heat.
