Round 5 of the 2019 FFA Cup for the South East Queensland (SEQ) region comes to a close tonight, with a set of 12 matches played to determine which teams will progress to the sixth round.
Teams from the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland showcased their talents with major sides triumphing over their oppositions, while some surprise victories knocked some NPL Queensland teams out of the competition before Round 6.
Despite an impressive performance from Vilic Law Capital League 3 team Logan Metro, Moreton Bay United scraped through with a 1-0 win to secure their spot in the next round of the competition.
Peninsula Power’s raring form almost came to a halt with Brisbane City threatening to end their winning run.
After regular time finished with scores locked at 1-1, City took an extra time lead and looked to have sealed the win until a Power goal in the 120th minute sent the game to penalties, with Peninsula Power triumphing 4-3.
Elsewhere, another all-NPL Queensland clash took a dramatic turn, with Brisbane Strikers putting three goals past Lions FC to send last year’s Round of 16 competitors marching from the competition.
Gold Coast teams continued to dominate as Gold Coast Premier League’s Burleigh Heads and Coomera both sealed wins to knock NPL Queensland sides Western Pride and Redlands United out of the cup competition, while Palm Beach SC put six goals past Nambour Yandina to progress to Round 6.
Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL) ladder leaders Logan Lightning also recorded a 3-1 win over NPL Queensland side SWQ Thunder to secure their spot in Round 6 and fellow FQPL side Holland Park Hawks put six goals past Brisbane Athletic in their inter-league clash.
The remaining game of Round 6 of the FFA Cup will take place tonight, as Sunshine Coast Wanderers host Gold Coast Knights in an all-NPL Queensland clash.
