Football Queensland (FQ) is pleased to announce the four nominees for the 2019 Football Queensland Premier League (FQPL) Young Player of the Year Award.
Kurtis Goodwin, Caleb Ackland, Jed Brown and Connor Booth have been nominated for the FQPL Young Player of the Year Award, which will be presented at the 2019 Football in Queensland Awards Night next month.
Capalaba FC keeper Kurtis Goodwin helped his side to second spot on the ladder and promotion to the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Queensland with his shot stopping efforts this year. Goodwin recorded three clean sheets in the 2019 season and appeared in the FQPL Team of the Week on two occasions, while also being selected in the Team of the Season after helping his side to the second best defensive record in 2019.
Rochedale Rovers’ Caleb Ackland made his FQPL first grade debut in 2019, helping his side to a Grand Final appearance thanks to his consistent efforts in defence. The 20-year-old Rochedale Rovers junior appeared in the FQPL Team of the Week on two occasions this year despite only playing his first match in Round 8, and experienced success with his side as they claimed the FQPL Championship after finishing the regular season in fourth.
Logan Lightning’s Jed Brown was an influential part of his side’s success in 2019, making an impact from the midfield and in attack to help his side to a top three finish. Brown scored 18 goals in as many games and was Logan’s leading goal scorer this year, and also finished second in the 2019 Golden Boot race behind Jeremy Stewart. The Logan Lightning young gun appeared in the FQPL Team of the Week an impressive six times, earning himself a spot in the 2019 Team of the Season.
Capalaba FC’s Connor Booth was one of his side’s most consistent players in 2019. Playing in every match this year, the young midfielder helped Capalaba FC earn promotion to the NPL Queensland after finishing the regular season in second. Booth also scored three goals throughout the year, one of which earned him the honour of the 2019 fans’ FQPL Goal of the Season as voted on FQ Facebook.
