Four Queensland referees have travelled to Sydney to officiate at the Australian Powerchair Football Association (APFA) 2020 Club Championships.
Mark Simon-Green, David Wiebe, Ellie Jones and Aimee Holcroft will be in attendance at the tournament, to be held from Thursday, 16 January to Tuesday, 21 January at Sydney Olympic Park’s Quay Centre.
FQ Chief Executive Officer Robert Cavallucci said FQ was proud to support the APFA 2020 Club Championships.
“We are very pleased to be able to send four nationally-qualified Queensland referees to officiate at the 2020 Club Championships,” Cavallucci said.
“Football Queensland is proud to continue our support of powerchair football in the state, and committed to providing high-quality participation experiences for all involved in the game, regardless of age, cultural background or ability.”
FQ State Referees Coach Mark Simon-Green said the Queensland match officials were looking forward to the experience.
“We’re really excited to get involved in this year’s APFA Club Championships having previously officiated in various powerchair football tournaments in Queensland,” Simon-Green said.
“We’re proud to say that we currently have six of the nine nationally-qualified referees for powerchair football in Queensland, so we’re looking forward to providing support for many more tournaments like this in the future.”
Three Queensland powerchair sides will compete in the 2020 Club Championships that will feature 11 teams from across Australia and New Zealand.
Lions Powerchair Football Club will make their debut in the tournament, joining Brisbane City Powerchair Football Club and Strikers Powerchair Football Club.
