Football Queensland can today confirm the 2021 Futsal State Titles will be held across five venues in Brisbane, Logan and the Gold Coast following a record number of team nominations.
The two-day event will be based at Nissan Arena, Anna Meares Velodrome and Chandler Arena Stadium in Brisbane, Cornubia Sports Stadium in Logan, and Runaway Bay Indoor Stadium on the Gold Coast from Saturday 9th to Sunday 10th October.
FQ Futsal Participation Officer Trevor Edwards said there had been enormous interest in the Futsal State Titles from communities across Queensland.
“The Futsal State Titles are one of the pinnacle events of the futsal calendar and in 2021 we will have more than 140 teams participating from Gold Coast to Bundaberg,” said Edwards.
“This tournament showcases talented players from across the state as teams compete to be crowned champions for their age group and overall club champion.
“The State Titles are also one of the identification pathways for Metro State Squads looking to compete at the Football Australia Futsal National Championships.
“A-League Men’s and Women’s players such as Josh Nisbet, Jez Lofthouse, Rebecca Stott and Larissa Crummer have all come through Queensland’s futsal pathway and played at State Titles before launching their professional careers.”
FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said the record number of team nominations reflected Queensland’s go-ahead approach to futsal.
“2021 has been a landmark year for futsal in Queensland with the launch of the F-League and our winning bid to host the Futsal National Championships in January 2022,” said Cavallucci.
“In the 2020-2022 Futsal Strategy, we identified the need to provide high quality participation experiences, and the 2021 FQ State Titles promises to be bigger and better than ever.
“Unfortunately, last year’s State Titles were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but I’m sure futsal players will be raring to go this year.
“With Football Queensland looking forward to hosting the Futsal National Championships in January, the State Titles will be a great entrée to Queensland’s summer of futsal.”
