Two blockbuster clashes between the Brisbane Roar A-Leagues sides and the NPL Queensland Men’s and Women’s All Stars will headline the 2021 Kappa Festival of Football.
The three-week festival will also include the NPL Queensland Men’s and Women’s Grand Finals and the 2021 Football in Queensland Awards Night.
Ben Richardson Football Queensland President said the Kappa Festival of Football would unite the game in Queensland, bringing together players, coaches, referees and fans from the NPL to the A-Leagues.
“After the success of last year’s event, Football Queensland is delighted to bring back the Kappa Festival of Football in 2021,” said Richardson.
“Beginning on Saturday 23 October with the NPL Queensland Women’s Grand Final, the Kappa Festival of Football will deliver three weekends of high-quality football at Brisbane’s Perry Park.
“2021 has been a transformational year as we connect Football Queensland competitions and align with Football Australia’s 2021/22 Domestic Match Calendar (DMC).
“The Kappa Festival of Football will come at a perfect time for football in Queensland as the NPL Men’s and Women’s conclude and the A-Leagues seasons begin.
“We are proud to host two huge matches between Brisbane Roar’s A-Leagues sides and the NPL Men’s and Women’s All Stars.
“The Kappa Festival of Football will serve as Brisbane Roar’s final pre-season game as they prepare for the launch of the A-League Men’s season.
“Both the Roar squads are filled with talent who were developed through the Football Queensland pathway, including coaches Warren Moon and Garrath McPherson.
“It has been great to see several Men’s and Women’s players who played for the NPL All Stars in last year’s Kappa Festival of Football have since signed for the Roar.”
Ben Richardson confirmed that the annual match between Queensland and New South Wales would not go ahead this year due to COVID restrictions.
“Football Queensland is committed to the interstate game and look forward to coming up against New South Wales in 2022.
“This year’s Kappa Festival of Football will be a fitting celebration as we continue to unite the game in Queensland.”
Tickets are now on sale for the All Stars matches, starting from $10 for children (12 and under), $20 for adults and $50 for a family pass (2 x children, 2 x adults).
