A ground-breaking new competition will bring together clubs from three regions of the Northern Conference in 2022, boosting the pathway for local clubs and participants.
The FQPL Champions League will provide increased participation opportunities for clubs in the Whitsunday Coast, Northern and Far North & Gulf regions.
The three regions’ top Men’s teams at the end of each season will qualify for the FQPL Champions League the following year, where they will play each other once to determine an FQPL Northern Conference winner.
The winner from the FQPL Northern Conference will then qualify for the Champions League Finals Series against the winner of the FQPL Central Conference.
The winner of that game will then meet the Premiers of the FQPL 1 in the SEQ Conference in the FQPL Champions League Final.
In the Women’s competition, the top teams at the end of each season from the three regions will qualify for the FQPL Champions League the following year, where they will play each other once to be crowned the FQPL Northern Conference winner.
The 2022 Women’s competition structure will be complemented by the Kappa Women’s Super Cup which will allow clubs to compete against opponents from other conferences.
FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci confirmed that all clubs in the Mackay, NQ and FNQ Premier Leagues have now transitioned to the new FQPL system.
“Two years ago we identified the need for regional Queensland players and clubs to be more connected and play more games at a higher level,” said Cavallucci.
“From next season, the FQPL Whitsunday Coast, FQPL Northern, and FQPL Far North & Gulf competitions will form the FQPL Northern Conference.
“The implementation of the FQPL system and the Champions League promises to be a game-changer for football in Queensland.
“It will allow aspirational players a chance to compete with the best of the best throughout their own Conference and the rest of the state to be crowned FQPL Champions League winners.”
