The Queensland football community will celebrate the game’s rich contribution to Australian life with a special online Australia Day FIFA Tournament on Wednesday, 26 January 2022.
The one-day knockout tournament will include separate competitions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.
FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said that on Australia Day we reflect on the past, present and future, listen and respect each other’s stories, contributions and aspirations and celebrate being Australian together, fair and free.
“As we look forward to a big year ahead, we encourage all Queenslanders to embrace the Reflect, Respect and Celebrate theme this Australia Day,” said Cavallucci.
“The best way to reflect, respect and celebrate on our national day is to get involved in football, Australia’s most popular participation sport.
“On Australia Day, we reflect on our ancient Country and celebrate the waves of migration that have helped forge Australia’s identity and place in the world.
“Football in Australia has played an important role in this multicultural success story, with generations of migrants using the game as a way of integrating into Australian society.
“Football continues to bring together Queenslanders of all backgrounds, from First Nations communities to new migrant groups that now call Australia home.
“With the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Queensland the safest way for our football community to come together is by competing in the Australia Day FIFA Tournament.
“Hosting the tournament online will allow Queenslanders from across the state to come together through football on Australia Day.
“Over the past two years, the Queensland football community has utilised online platforms to stay connected during COVID-19 lockdowns.
“Participants will get to experience the latest technology from Austech Connect, one of Australia’s leading developers of web-based Augmented and Virtual Reality experiences and 3D modelling.
“The FQ Australia Day FIFA Tournament will be free for all participants, and we encourage everyone to get involved regardless of their experience in the game.
“The pandemic has been a test for all of us, but together the Queensland football community has met every challenge thrown at us.
“We are one football family, and we’re all part of the story.”
