Players from the Northern regions will be on display this weekend as Football Queensland hosts its first FQ Academy Carnival for 2022 on Saturday, 19 March and Sunday, 20 March.
The inaugural carnival since the launch of the FQ Academy will be held at 1300SMILES Active Park in Townsville and will welcome U13 to U16 Boys and U13/14 and U15/17 Girls teams from the Far North & Gulf, Northern and Whitsunday Coast regions.
“FQ Academy Carnivals will be held across the state in 2022, providing players with the opportunity to have their abilities assessed and potential recognised through our FQ Academy talent identification system,” State Technical Director Gabor Ganczer said.
“The carnival in Townsville this weekend is the first time young players from the Northern regions will showcase their skills in a competitive environment this year as they come up against their peers from other parts of the state.
“Football Senior Manager – Club Development, Talent & Coaching in the Northern region and Pro Diploma Coach Michael Edwards will lead the talent identification at this weekend’s carnival.
“We look forward to also welcoming these young footballers to other state-wide FQ Academy Carnivals throughout the year as they gain further exposure to high-quality competition.”
