The season resumed last weekend, and although some games were still postponed due to wet weather. We did manage to see some results. With no rain on the horizon, it looks like we will get the full compliment of fixtures this weekend. Here is your round preview.
FQPL3 DD Women
USQFC have suffered back to back defeats from Willowburn, and they will be keen to get their season back to winning ways as they face West Wanderers. Wanderers will enter the game as ranked underdogs, but the mid-season break may have freshened the squad up and provided a perfect opportunity to cause an upset win.
Hawks are coming off the back of a narrow 2-0 loss to Highfields Gold. And will be keen to stay within the top four, so a strong performance is expected. Highfields Green will be looking to build a strong foundation in their first half and if they can match Hawks in energy, attitude and enthusiasm. The second half could be a lot closer than many might predict.
Rovers host Willowburn, over the years these two teams have developed a strong rivalry. And no doubt this will continue on Sunday morning. Willowburn will sense a little bit of pressure from second placed Highfields Gold as they sit four points adrift but still have games in hand. Whilst a win to the Rovers gets them knocking on the door of the top four.
Highfields Gold host Rockville Rubies for our last match of the round. The win to HF Gold against Hawks will give them every bit of confidence heading into this fixture. But despite little to no football in the past four weeks, the Rubies continue to surprise and are sitting just outside the top four. A win puts them right in contention, and that could be all the motivation they need to go after all three points.
FQPL3 DD Men
Top of the table clash on Saturday night as Willowburn take on Wanderers. Wanderers are coming off a loss to Highfields, whilst Willowburn are coming off a draw to Gatton. The last time these two met, it was full throttle football and ended in a 2-2 draw. This time out should be no exception and we can anticipate a fast free flowing game.
Gatton travel to Rockville on Sunday afternoon and will no doubt be buoyed that they held Willowburn to just one goal and also managed to get a point out of last week’s match. Whereas Rockville haven’t played in 3-4 weeks so they will need to shake the ‘rust’ off early and get into their rhythm. A win to either side will be a massive boost to their season aspirations.
Boosted by their second win of the season last week, Highfields continue to surprise many in the competition. And their first win of the season came against their opponent this weekend, in Saints. The battle for the top four is now starting to sizzle and these two teams are currently ranked 5th and 6th. So this has all the makings of a thriller as neither side will want to fall away from the pursuit or be at the bottom of the ladder.
