Football Queensland will host an exhibition match featuring a McDonald’s FQPL 3 Sunshine Coast Women’s All Stars squad and the Sunshine Coast Goannas on Sunday, 3 July as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations in the region, competing for the Reconciliation Cup.
“NAIDOC Week is an important milestone on our Queensland football calendar, with celebrations happening across the state including Indigenous Round which will be held across all competitions state-wide,” FQ General Manager – Central Coast Region Andy Allan said.
“In the Sunshine Coast region, we’re excited to mark the occasion by inviting players from each of our FQPL 3 Women’s clubs to play in a special exhibition match against Indigenous side the Sunshine Coast Goannas.
“This weekend’s event will provide a fantastic opportunity for our clubs and participants on the Sunshine Coast to come together to acknowledge and celebrate the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples while connecting with members of the region’s First Nations communities.
“On behalf of Football Queensland, I’d like to thank the Sunshine Coast Goannas for joining us in celebrating NAIDOC Week and for providing formidable opposition for our Sunshine Coast All Stars side for the upcoming exhibition match.
“We look forward to seeing members of our football community from across all clubs coming along to join in the NAIDOC Week celebrations this weekend.”
