Brisbane Roar FC will return to Wide Bay next month as they take on an FQPL Wide Bay Men’s All-Stars side for the third annual exhibition match in the region.
Players from across the FQPL Wide Bay Men’s competition will feature in the match which will be hosted at the Fraser Coast Sports and Recreation Precinct on Saturday, 27 August.
“Following the success of this event in 2021, Football Queensland is delighted to welcome Brisbane Roar FC to the region again this year to take on some of Wide Bay’s most talented footballers,” FQ General Manager – Central Coast Region Andy Allan said.
“The exhibition match provides an exciting opportunity for our local talent from across a number of FQPL Wide Bay sides to test themselves against professional footballers as they come up against an A-Leagues outfit.
“More than 3,000 spectators were in attendance last year as our select side took on Brisbane Roar, so we look forward to welcoming even more members of our football community to the exhibition match next month.
“Thank you to Brisbane Roar FC and to the Fraser Coast Regional Council for bringing this event to our region and supporting football here in Wide Bay.”
The Fraser Coast is a training ground and home for many athletes across a wide range of sports and we are proud of their achievements, Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said.
“Games such as this match allow us to showcase our upcoming stars and lets them gain valuable experience as they play at a higher level.
“It also gives us an opportunity to showcase our region and facilities.
“I look forward to a great match and hope for a close game if not a home win.
“On behalf of my fellow Councillors and the community of the Fraser Coast, I wish you a top competition undertaken in the spirit of true sportsmanship.
“We hope you take home many happy memories of your time on the Fraser Coast; enjoy our facilities and make sure you find some time to enjoy the other attractions the Fraser Coast has to offer.”
Following a thorough player selection process, the FQPL Wide Bay Men’s All-Stars training squad and coaching staff will be announced soon.
A match day squad will then be confirmed in late August based on player viewings and training sessions observed by technical staff.
Entry to the exhibition match is FREE.
