The highest level of competitive futsal in Queensland will be back and bigger than ever as the 2022 season of the F-League gets underway this weekend.
This year’s F-League competition will feature eight clubs, with Senior Men’s and Women’s teams competing from Arana United, Brisbane Elitefoot, Crusaders FC, Galaxy FC, Ipswich Futsal, River City Futsal, Sunshine Coast Wave and Sala Time.
FQ Manager – Futsal Vince Sciacca said the second edition of the F-League will include some innovative changes following the inaugural season last year, with the Queensland competition representing a crucial step towards a national F-League competition.
“It is fantastic to see how much the F-League has expanded in its second edition with eight clubs fielding both Men’s and Women’s sides from across the Gold Coast, Ipswich, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast,” Sciacca said.
“Football Queensland has plans to expand the league even further in 2023 to include clubs from the Darling Downs and Wide Bay regions as we work towards building a connected competition that includes SEQ, Northern and Central conferences in the future to unlock the potential of futsal across Queensland.
“An eight club Men’s and Women’s elite level competition is a significant achievement and a milestone in unifying the game in the state. The level of interest and the quality of applications for the 2022 season were outstanding, clearly demonstrating that the futsal community is looking for club-based competitions that showcase the game.
“I can’t wait for the new F-League season to kick off this weekend, and I know the Queensland futsal community is looking forward to seeing this year’s expanded competition getting underway.”
The 2022 F-League season will feature double-headers as Men’s and Women’s games are played back-to-back for the first part of the competition. A centralised location will then host the remaining fixtures to coincide with the SEQ Futsal Premier League, which will be played in a club v club format.
Opening round fixtures for the 2022 F-League season will be released in the coming days.
