Football Queensland will deliver the first ever FQ Academy Under 12 Cup next month, providing a new competitive tournament for FQ Academy players across the state.
The inaugural event will be held at Maroochydore FC from Saturday, 17 September to Monday, 19 September and will feature teams from across the five FQ Academy regional centres alongside NPL Junior sides.
“Football Queensland is delighted to introduce a brand new competitive event for our Under 12 boys and girls from every region with the launch of the FQ Academy Under 12 Cup,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“The tournament will provide young footballers throughout regional Queensland with additional playing and development opportunities through the FQ Academy program as they play competitive matches against their peers and compete for silverware for the first time.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming players and their families from each of our five FQ Academy regional centres for next month’s event, which kicks off a huge few weeks of football on the Sunshine Coast as the FQ Community Cup is also held in the region in the days following the FQ Academy Under 12 Cup.
“We’re excited to see our state’s brightest young talent in action as our FQ Academy players from across the state gather on the beautiful Sunshine Coast for the inaugural tournament.”
“The FQ Academy Under 12 Cup provides a platform for Queensland players in the Skill Acquisition Phase with their first opportunity to gain experience in a competitive playing environment, helping prepare them for future competitive events as they progress on Football Queensland’s advanced player pathway,” FQ General Manager – Football & State Technical Director Gabor Ganczer said.
“High intensity match minutes play an important role in junior player development and this new tournament will be particularly beneficial for our regional FQ Academy players who will get to test their skills against their peers from across other regional centres and advanced Metro clubs.
“The introduction of the FQ Academy Under 12 Cup will further bolster the FQ Academy program, strengthening the link between Queensland’s advanced player pathway and Australia’s national teams by providing additional development opportunities for our state’s young footballers.”
Further information on the competition draw will be released in the coming weeks.
