The final round of the FQPL 3 Darling Downs competition comes to a close this weekend.
FQPL 3 DD Women
League winners, Willowburn play host to Highfields Green this Sunday. And whilst there is a considerable gap between these two teams, both will be looking to finish well. A win is crucial in terms of momentum for the magpies as they get set for another finals campaign. Whilst a result for Green will be a fitting way to see it out a tough campaign, but buoy their aspirations for 2023.

Wanderers welcome Hawks to their home ground on Saturday evening. And whilst Wanderers have only one win to show for their efforts in 2022, they have finished their season in a much better shape than how they started. A win or a draw to fourth placed Hawks could do wonders for their confidence in the off season. Whilst Hawks, will want to rebound quickly after last week’s loss to get them in the right frame of mind for finals football.

A see sawing season for the Rubies could be topped off with a win against USQFC, who have shown potential all season, but haven’t been able to capitalise any momentum they have built. Both sides have the capability to play a great brand of football and if both teams come with a positive and engaged mind set, we could be in for a really entertaining match of football.

In the match of the round, and a preview to semi-finals football Rovers host HF Gold. Rockville started their season slow but have continually chipped away and have gone a great run to work themselves back into premiership contention. However, it’s hard to find a weakness in the Gold squad and nullifying one player, will simply mean time and space for another. Will be a great game of football, and perhaps the winner gains a psychological advantage for finals football.

The equation is very simply for Gatton on Saturday night, if they want to play finals football, a win is imperative. Whilst a draw keeps them in contention, a win would put the pressure right back on the Rovers on Sunday afternoon. Highfields have always maintained they are not here to simply make up the numbers, and no doubt they will want to cap off their years with a big three points for their departing coach. The challenge becomes all the more harder in front of a vocal Redbacks crowd.

Another preview for semi-finals football will be on display on Sunday afternoon at West Wanderers, as 2nd & 3rd do battle. Saints are coming off a win, and will feel they have the edge on Wanderers. Whilst Wanderers, will be eager to get some form back after their loss to Willowburn last weekend. Both teams will be mindful of discipline, as any slip up could see them missing out on finals football.

Rockville kept their season alive last weekend with a narrow win, despite being down to 10 men. To keep their run going they will need to do what no team is yet to do so far in 2022, beat Willowburn. The magpies are staring at the prospect of going through undefeated. From a neutral perspective, it doesn’t not get any better. One team wants finals, and the other wants a perfect season, oh and they have a healthy rivalry. It promises to be a fitting conclusion for an eventful season.
