Football Queensland has selected a squad of 12 players to attend the National Para Football Championships, which will be held at the Gold Coast Performance Centre from Saturday, 24 September to Tuesday, 27 September.
The tournament will feature teams from six Member Federations in total including Capital Football, Football West, Football NSW, Football Victoria and Football South Australia.
“Football Queensland is delighted to announce our Queensland squad who will represent the state at this month’s National Para Football Championships on the Gold Coast,” FQ President Ben Richardson said.
“The upcoming tournament is set to be a fantastic showcase of football talent, demonstrating how our game is one for Queenslanders of all abilities, all ages and all backgrounds.
“The Queensland side features players as young as 14, 16 and 17, as well as a number of more experienced players who have represented Australia as part of the Pararoos squad including Jared Eiby and Jarrod Larkins-Law who will captain our state team.
“On behalf of Football Queensland, congratulations to the 12 Queenslanders who have been selected to represent the state at the National Para Football Championships, and all the best for the tournament.”
“It has been wonderful to see our Football Queensland squad preparing for the National Para Football Championships as they’ve trained alongside other para-footballers from the Brisbane Paralympic Football Program (BPFP) in recent weeks, and we’d like to acknowledge the efforts and support of BPFP Director Jay Larkin in helping bring the Queensland squad together ahead of the upcoming tournament,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“The announcement of this year’s squad is particularly exciting as Football Queensland will send a state team to participate in the National Para Football Championships for the first time in six years, providing a valuable opportunity for some of our state’s best para-footballers to compete on the national stage.”
The National Para Football Championships will include group stage fixtures before Finals Series matches are played.
The modified version of the game sees teams field a maximum of seven players at any time including a goalkeeper, with requirements around the makeup of the team based on players’ Classification level (FT1, FT2 or FT3).
