Football Queensland is excited to announce the squad that will represent the state at the 2023 National Para Football Championships, to be held in Perth from Tuesday, 3 October to Sunday, 8 October.
Five states will vie to be crowned National Champions in the 19th edition of the tournament, with the Queensland squad presented with their jerseys at the FIFA Fan Festival over the weekend.
“The upcoming National Para Football Championships provide our Queensland players with a fantastic opportunity to represent our state on the national stage and will be their final chance to impress the CommBank ParaMatildas and CommBank Pararoos head coaches ahead of selection for the 2023 IFCPF Para Asian Cup,” FQ’s Manager – Inclusion Football Sam Escobar said.
“This year’s squad includes 12 incredibly talented footballers, including CommBank Pararoos captain David Barber and Trinity McPhie, the first female player to be selected in a Queensland side for the National Para Football Championships.
“Our state claimed the title of National Champions in 2008 and have come close again as runners up for a number of years, so our players will be keen to showcase their skills as they come up against players from across the country.
“On behalf of Football Queensland, congratulations to each of our Queenslanders selected for the 2023 National Para Football Championships and we look forward to seeing you in action this October.”
The CommBank ParaMatildas and CommBank Pararoos, Australia’s national teams for footballers with celebral palsy, acquired brain injury or symptoms acquired from stroke, will represent the country later this year as Australia hosts the men’s and women’s 2023 IFCPF Asia-Oceania Championships (Para Asian Cup).
