An NPL Select side will take on Brisbane Roar FC at Underwood Park this Saturday, 23 September in a showcase of the state’s best female talent ahead of the Battle of the States clash in Victoria.
The exhibition match featuring Brisbane Roar FC’s Liberty A-League side will act as a curtain raiser to the state vs state games happening later in the day, which will see a Queensland Men’s and Women’s squad travel south to take on players from the NPL Victoria.
“Football Queensland is excited to provide some of our state’s best female players with the unique opportunity to take on Brisbane Roar FC in what will be part of an unmissable day of action for Queensland football fans,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“This match will give our football community the opportunity to watch a high-quality display of football at local venue Underwood Park, before tuning in online to watch two huge blockbuster interstate matches as our state teams come up against Victoria in the Battle of the States at The Home of the Matildas.
“Ahead of the weekend, 36 players have been named in an extended Queensland women’s squad with 16 players to be selected for the travelling squad taking on Victoria and another 16 to be named for the NPL Select side to play against Brisbane Roar FC.
“The delivery of this match highlights the collaborative relationship we’re building with Brisbane Roar FC as we continue working together to unite the game through the development of more opportunities for football here in Queensland.”
“Saturday will be a great opportunity for our Women’s team to have a pre-season hit out at Underwood Park in the lead-up to their season,” Brisbane Roar COO Zac Anderson said.
“We look forward to continuing close collaboration with Football Queensland and supporting its role in developing and nurturing Queensland’s best young talent.”
