Football Queensland (FQ) has today launched its #EQUALISER federal election campaign ahead of the 2025 Federal Election, building on the momentum of its highly successful state election efforts in 2024 to strengthen its advocacy for vital infrastructure investment in football clubs across Queensland.
To help clubs prepare for the federal election phase of the #EQUALISER campaign, FQ will be hosting two online webinars on Wednesday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 12, with each designed to guide clubs on how to leverage the upcoming federal election to their advantage.
This campaign is focused on empowering Queensland’s football clubs to engage directly with their local federal representatives from all political parties. The goal is to address the critical infrastructure funding gap, ensuring that every club, no matter its location, has the facilities needed to support football’s ongoing growth.
Following the success of the 2024 #EQUALISER state election campaign, which secured a record $28 million in pre-election project commitments – the highest of any sport – FQ is now shifting its advocacy focus to the federal stage, ensuring our clubs can maximise this opportunity for crucial infrastructure investment.
“Football has captured the hearts of hundreds of thousands across Queensland, proudly standing as the state’s most popular team sport. However, our facilities are struggling to keep up with the game’s rapid growth and rising profile,” Football Queensland CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“After the success of last year’s #EQUALISER state election campaign, where our clubs secured vital political support, we are now shifting our focus to the federal stage. With football’s growth outpacing infrastructure development, the federal election is a crucial moment to collectively advocate for the investment our clubs need to keep up with the increasing demand for facilities across Queensland.
“The webinars we are delivering to clubs will cover a range of essential topics, including looking back at the successes and lessons from the 2024 #EQUALISER state election campaign, how clubs can position themselves for federal election funding, project readiness, the documentation required, and the steps clubs need to take to engage with federal candidates and advocate for investment in their local football facilities.
“While the state election campaign delivered great results, the federal election offers us a unique opportunity to continue pushing for the infrastructure investment needed to meet the game’s growing demand. We still face an infrastructure funding gap, and now is the time to address it.
“We are not just advocating for funding; we’re advocating for football to be recognised as a cornerstone of Queensland’s social and cultural identity. Football brings people together, unites communities, and creates lifelong connections. Our clubs are often at the heart of their local areas, and we are determined to ensure they have the facilities that reflect their importance.”
