Football Queensland is delighted to announce the return of FIFA international referee Alex King, who will take on the newly created role of Head of Advanced Match Officials.
As a former 2023/24 A-League Men’s Referee of the Year and experienced FQ Referee Academy Coach, Alex brings extensive knowledge from both elite domestic and international football. His experience at the top levels of the game will be a huge benefit for Queensland, helping to develop elite referees and strengthen the relationships between referees and Advanced Leagues clubs across the state.
“I’m thrilled to return to Football Queensland in this new role and to have the opportunity to help shape the next generation of referees. Queensland has always been a leader in referee development, and I’m excited to contribute to that continued success. I want to see Queensland officials continue to dominate selection in the National Panels,” Alex King said.
“A big part of this role that I am looking forward to is strengthening the connection between our Queensland referees and clubs across the Advanced Leagues. By building stronger relationships and sharing insights from the top levels of the game, we can continue to lift the overall standard and understanding of officiating across the state.”
In his role, Alex will oversee coaching, mentoring, and development programs for Queensland’s elite referees, while also engaging with advanced clubs to promote collaboration and consistency across competitions.
“Alex is one of Australia’s most accomplished referees and a proud product of the Football Queensland pathway,” FQ Senior Manager – Leagues and Officials Slater Asnicar said.
“Having Alex back in this senior role is fantastic for our advanced match officials. His experience at the top level of the game will be a huge asset to their growth and development. Alex has a genuine passion for supporting referees, and his leadership will help guide the next generation while ensuring Queensland continues to produce some of the best officials in the country.”
