Football Queensland (FQ) is excited to announce the inaugural Winter Festival of Football, a four-day extravaganza of Queensland’s most popular participation sport.
The festival will be held at the home of Football Queensland at Meakin Park in partnership with Logan City Council from Wednesday, 7 July to Saturday, 10 July 2021.
“We anticipate this will be the largest participation event FQ has ever held, encompassing nine fields with an expected attendance of around 6,000 lovers of football over the four days,” FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
“Football is the sport of choice for Queenslanders and WinterFest will celebrate the size and strength of our game, from junior boys and girls right through to those involved in Over 35s and Masters competitions.
“Football is a game for all, for life, and whether it be the Skill Acquisition Phase State Carnival, MiniRoos carnival, Walking Football tournament or the culturally diverse teams of the Q-League, there will be something for everyone at WinterFest.
“The opening day of the festival will also feature an Elite match between the best young male footballers from across the country as part of a talent identification opportunity for the National Under 17 squad.
“As a junior footballer during the 1980s, one of the highlights of my childhood was the atmosphere created at football carnivals and I have no doubt the WinterFest will become an important calendar event for everyone involved in Queensland football.”
Logan City Council Lifestyle Committee Deputy Chair, Councillor Tony Hall, said there was no better place than City of Logan for the inaugural football festival.
“Our city is a proud sporting community that is passionate about helping athletes of all abilities achieve their goals,” Councillor Hall said.
“Some of Australia’s most talented sporting professionals have come from City of Logan and we continue to anticipate great success for our football communities.
“We look forward to welcoming football players and fans from all over Queensland in July for what’s sure to be a fantastic event.”
