What qualifications will I be studying?

TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275) will deliver training in any or all of a Diploma of Sport (SIS50321), Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB50420), Diploma of Event Management (SIT50322) as well as school level programming which includes delivery of the Certificate II in Sport Coaching (SIS20321) and Certificate III in Sport Coaching (SIS30521). These skills and units have been chosen and contextualised by TAFE Queensland, in consultation with Football Queensland, to meet the demands of the sporting industry.

Is there an opportunity to pursue further study post completion of the qualifications?

Graduates of the Diploma program can access diploma-to-degree pathways, receiving up to one year of credit for degrees at leading Australian universities. This includes programs in sport development, sport management, and business, preparing students for further academic and professional opportunities. Throughout the Diploma level courses, TAFE Queensland runs a session for students to assist in their plotting of future study pathways.

What activities outside of the curriculum will I be participating in as part of the program?

For the Diploma programming, students can expect to be able to participate in up to 70 hours of work experience with Football Queensland, relevant to the areas of study within the specific Diploma course. In addition, students will participate in four field trips to Football Queensland headquarters, as well as field trips to other leading sporting associations in Queensland. On each field trip, students will hear from guest speakers from within industry who lead the way in sports coaching, leadership and event delivery to create a truly unbelievable and well-rounded learning experience.

 

For the TAFE at School Certificate courses, participants can expect to hear from industry expert guest speakers, participate in Football Queensland led skills sessions, and be provided with coaching opportunities as they may arise.

What will my weekly schedule look like?

For the Diploma programs, classes are taught two days per week, face-to-face at TAFE’s South Bank campus, with another half day scheduled for online tutorials/catchup. Each term, students will participate in field trips to different sporting assocaitions, including four trips to Football Queensland’s headquarters. These field trips are pre-notified as part of the delivery schedule and designed to help students best understand sports from a different angle.  

 

For TAFE at School certificate courses, learning takes place one day per week during the school year, replacing an ordinary day at school. Students attend one of Football Queensland’s TAFE campuses from 9am until 3pm, where they will participate in supervised education delivery, training and simulations.
