TAFE At School: Certificate II & III in Sport Coaching (Years 10–12)

Want to start a career in sport while you’re still at school?

Through the TAFE Queensland Academy of Sport, students in Years 10, 11, and 12 can now enrol in our TAFE at School sport coaching program, offered from three accessible locations across South East Queensland.

In Year 1, students complete the nationally recognised Certificate II in Sport Coaching (SIS20321) — the perfect introduction to coaching, leadership, and working in the sport and recreation industry. In Year 2, students can choose to progress into the Certificate III in Sport Coaching (SIS30521) to further build their skills, confidence, and career readiness.

What You’ll Learn

Certificate II in Sport Coaching (Year 1):

  • Set up and manage equipment for sport
  • Support basic coaching sessions
  • Assist with game day and training operations
  • Learn communication and leadership in sport environments

Certificate III in Sport Coaching (Year 2, optional):

  • Plan and deliver coaching sessions
  • Support athletes in skill development
  • Implement inclusive and safe coaching practices
  • Build coaching confidence across a range of sports
  • Courses can be tailored to a preferred sport — including football.

Who Can Apply?

  • Students in Years 10, 11 or 12 in 2026
  • Open to students from any school (public or private)
  • No prior experience required – just a passion for sport

Program Details:

  • Location options: South Bank, Bracken Ridge, Gold Coast
  • Delivery: 1 day per week
  • Duration: 12 months per certificate
  • Funding: Eligible students may access Career Ready or VETiS-style funding (final confirmation pending)

Launched in 2025, the FQ Institute of Business and Sport builds on the existing partnership with TAFE Queensland to deliver a dedicated education pathway built within the heart of Football Queensland.

Students gain access to real-world, work integrated learning across every area of the game, from coaching and player development to business, events and administration. This unique program creates genuine opportunities for those aspiring to a career in sport while building the future workforce of football in Queensland.
